Only 600km To Go Till Camps Bay. Hmm...
Beaufort West, the Capital of the Karoo, is breathtaking with an even more impressive history. Not only was it the first municipality in South Africa, ever... its rolling plains are also home to some of the world's first discovered fossils, as well as home to a certain medical pioneer, Dr Chris Barnard, the first man to successfully perform a heart transplant. The story goes that his brother died of a heart attack at age 5 and this is what inspired him to go to medical school and eventually become master of the heart. Just outside of Beaufort West is the Karoo National Park, home to a number of quaggas and even some black rhinos. Unfortunately, I'll only be "passing through" on my my stationary bike charity ride from Jozi to Camps Bay, otherwise known as the Ride To Pandamonium. Lots more ground to "cover."
