Yesterday I met up with my good friends Nicci and Lars for a day of wandering around and exploring the sinking city of Venice. What is it sinking about exactly? I dunno, maybe how to stay afloat. But I digress. We decided to go a little off the beaten track to avoid the thousands of tourist packs mindlessly following brightly coloured umbrellas and overtly loud tour guides. The only problem was we got terribly lost and basically walked to the city limit. It's an ugly wall with a dead end poster on it. A few giant cold beers, Google Maps and some "Bangladeshi" pizzas (that's what they tasted like - yuck!) later, we were back on our adventure, only this time our mission was to find a bar to watch the Brazil vs Holland game. After 1.5 hours running around, peering into every bar, shop, restaurant, hotel and what I think was a Venetian sweatshop, we found a bar with air conditioning, ice-cream and what appears to be the only plasma TV in Venice. It seems that since Italy was knocked out, the people here couldn't care less about the World Cup. Pity for them because it was an amazing game! Lucky for us, we basically had the place and all its yummy cold beer to ourselves.
